Yasir Ali and Anamul Haque Shine with Fifties in BPL Season Opener
Yasir Ali and Anamul Haque of Durbar Rajshahi lit up the opening match of the new Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season on Monday in Mirpur with brilliant fifties.
Yasir delivered an explosive unbeaten 94 off just 47 balls, while Anamul contributed a steady 65 off 51 balls. Their efforts powered Rajshahi to a commanding total of 197 for three against defending champions Fortune Barishal.
After losing the toss, Rajshahi were sent in to bat but faced early setbacks. Jishan Alam fell for a duck in the second over, dismissed by Kyle Mayers. With just 25 runs on the board, they also lost their second wicket, leaving the team in a precarious position.
However, Anamul and Yasir steadied the innings with an impressive 140-run stand for the third wicket. Anamul smashed four boundaries and five sixes before being dismissed in the 18th over. Yasir, on the other hand, was unstoppable, finishing with an unbeaten 94, which included seven fours and eight towering sixes.
Kyle Mayers was the standout bowler for Barishal, picking up two crucial wickets. The match marked Rajshahi’s return to the BPL after several years.
Meanwhile, outside the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, ticket chaos unfolded. Fans clashed, breaking a gate in their attempt to enter the venue. Police intervened, using batons to disperse the crowd.
