Wildfires sweep through Los Angeles County, prompting thousands to evacuate their homes.
California State Assemblyman Bill Essayli is urging Governor Gavin Newsom to convene a special legislative session to address the wildfire crisis as multiple fires continue to ravage Los Angeles County.
"California is enduring an unprecedented wildfire disaster because our Governor prioritizes 'Trump-Proofing' the state over fireproofing it," Essayli stated in comments to Fox News Digital. "There is no justification for California — the fifth-largest economy and tech hub of the world — to resemble a third-world country when facing foreseeable, preventable wildfires. The tragic loss of life and property in Los Angeles is a direct consequence of failed Democratic policies influenced by environmental extremists controlling the Legislature."
In his letter to Newsom, Essayli highlighted that California recorded over 8,000 wildfires in 2024, stressing the ongoing threat to lives and livelihoods. He called for a significant overhaul of the state's wildfire prevention and response strategies.
